Razor wire has been used successfully for many years in prisons, war zones, industrial areas etc. The most popular designs in metropolitan and industrial areas are the short and medium length barbs in either concertina or flat loop shapes. Short barbs, are just as sharp as long barbs, but less likely to cause any serious injury and for this reason are used extensively and often in conjunction with a standard chainmesh fence – either attached to the barbed wire and / or attached to the base of the fence. A small protective chainmesh fence is sometimes installed in front of the razorwire to avoid any accidental contact from the inside of the fence.
